Ingredients

  • 1 450gr block extra-firm tofu

Tofu Marinade:

  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 gloves of garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon steak seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parlsey to garnish

Instructions

  • Start by pressing the block of tofu to remove excess water. This can be done by using a tofu press or by wrapping the tofu in a paper towels or clean tea towels and placing something heavy on top, like a skillet, for 20-30 minutes.
  • While the tofu is pressing, prepare the marinade by mixing together in a small bowl the olive oil, dijon mustard, balsamic vinegar, chopped garlic, ground black pepper, and steak seasoning. Make sure the ingredients are well combined before setting aside.
  • After the tofu has been pressed, cut it into ½-inch thin slices and place it in a shallow dish. Pour the savory marinade over the slices, making sure to coat each piece evenly. Allow the tofu to marinate for at least 30 minutes, turning the slices halfway through to ensure a uniform flavor.
  • Preheat your grill or a large skillet over medium high heat. When it's heated, place tofu steaks on the cooking surface, taking care to save any marinade left in the dish.
  • Cook the tofu steaks for approximately 4-5 minutes on each side or until they sport a beautiful golden brown color. You can occasionally brush the tofu with the remaining marinade for extra flavor during cooking.
  • Remove the tofu steaks from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together

Notes

How do you store the leftovers?
Leftover tofu steaks can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days. It's important to note that tofu tends to get firmer and more intense in flavor as it sits, so you may want to reheat the leftovers in a skillet or on a grill pan to restore their original texture and flavor.
