Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 1 /4 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cauliflower head in florets
  • 3 green onions chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds roasted
  • SAUCE
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • ¼ cup vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger grated
  • 2 cloves of garlic finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch plus 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 450F.
  • In a bowl, combine the water, flour, salt and baking powder.
  • Soak the cauliflower florets in the wet batter.
  • Place the floretsin a single layer on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper and bake for 20 minutes
  • During this time prepare the sauce.
  • Place the soy sauce, maple syrup, vinegar, broth, sesame oil, ginger, garlic and sriracha sauce, cornstarch and water in a small saucepan or skillet. Mix to combine all the ingredients.
  • On medium-high heat, bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer until the sauce is thickened, about 1 mimutes.
  • Take the florets out of the oven, add the cauliflower florets to a large mixing bowl l with the sauce, and toss to coat the florets with the sauce.
  • Place back in the baking sheet, return to the oven for 5 minutes 
  • Serve over rice and sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions

Notes

Storing your delicious General Tso Cauliflower is easy. To retain its flavor and texture, it's best to keep the dish in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It should stay fresh for up to three days, but it's best to eat it sooner rather than later. You can also freeze the dish in an airtight container for up to two months. When you're ready to eat it, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and warm on the stove or in the oven before serving.
