Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Zester or microplane
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Airtight container or glass jar

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup orange juice
  • ½ cup regular sugar or brown sugar
  • 5 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 3 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce minced
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Rinse cranberries under cold water.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine orange juice and sugar.
  • Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to simmer for 5 minutes until sugar dissolves.
  • Add cranberries and orange zest.
  • Stir in minced chipotle peppers and simmer 10–15 minutes until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  • Add a pinch of salt and adjust flavors.
  • Remove from heat and cool to room temperature.
  • Transfer to an airtight jar and refrigerate.

Notes

  • Start with fewer chipotles if you prefer milder heat — you can always add more.
  • The sauce thickens as it cools, so don’t over-reduce it while cooking.
  • Make it ahead — it tastes even better after a day or two in the fridge.
  • Try it over grilled cheese or with baked brie for a surprising twist.
