Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or wire rack
  • Oven or air fryer

Ingredients

  • 4 frozen hash brown patties
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese freshly shredded
  • 1 small red onion finely diced
  • ⅓ cup cooked bacon crumbled (3-4 strips)
  • ⅓ cup sour cream or ranch sour cream*
  • 1 small tomato diced
  • Fresh parsley chopped (optional garnish)
  • *Ranch sour cream: Mix ½ cup sour cream + 1 tablespoon chives + 1 teaspoon ranch seasoning

Instructions

For Oven:

  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or set a wire rack over a sheet pan.
  • Arrange hash brown patties in a single layer. Bake 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.

For Air Fryer:

  • Preheat air fryer to 400°F.
  • Place hash brown patties in a single layer (don't overlap). Air fry 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
  • To Finish (Both Methods):3. Remove from oven/air fryer. Immediately top each patty with shredded cheddar, crumbled bacon, and diced onion.4. Return to oven and broil 3-4 minutes (or air fry 2-3 more minutes) until cheese is melted and bubbly. Watch closely!5. Top with sour cream, diced tomato, and parsley. Serve immediately while crispy and hot.

Notes

  • Crispier hash browns: Use a wire rack over a baking sheet so air circulates underneath
  • Best cheese melt: Shred from a block, not pre-shredded
  • Don't pile cheese too high: Thin even layer = better melt and less sogginess
  • Make it spicy: Use pepper jack cheese or add diced jalapeños
  • Mini appetizers: Cut patties in half or quarters before topping
Storage: Refrigerate leftovers up to 2 days. Reheat in oven or air fryer at 375°F for 5-7 minutes. Do not microwave.
