You know those desserts that feel like they belong at every Easter table? This Easter fluff salad is exactly that. It's sweet, creamy, colorful, and honestly a little nostalgic. Soft marshmallows, juicy fruit cocktail, fluffy whipped topping, and little pieces of Peeps mixed right in. It tastes like a cross between a fruit salad and a candy bowl.

A bowl of marshmallow salad topped with colorful marshmallow Peeps, surrounded by more Peeps and a pastel plaid cloth on a marble surface.

I love this one because it's ridiculously easy. Four ingredients. One bowl. Five minutes of work. Then the fridge does the rest. It's the kind of dessert you bring to Easter brunch alongside things like my Greek yogurt bark or fruit salad with honey lime dressing, and suddenly everyone is asking who made the fluff bowl.

    The ingredients

A bowl of mini marshmallows, a container of whipped topping, a box of marshmallow chicks, and a bowl of mixed fruit on a marble surface.

Whipped topping: This creates the creamy fluffy base. Cool Whip is the classic choice and holds the texture best after chilling.

Colored miniature marshmallows: These add the classic fluff texture. The pastel colors make the salad look festive for Easter.

Fruit cocktail: Drained well so the salad stays thick and creamy instead of watery.

Peeps bunnies and chicks: These melt slightly into the fluff and add sweet marshmallow flavor. Plus they make the dessert instantly Easter themed.

Steps-by-step Instructions for the Easter Fluff

    1. Cut the Peeps

Slice most of the Peeps into small pieces. Save a couple whole ones for decorating the top later.

    2. Add the whipped topping

Place the whipped topping in a large mixing bowl.

    3. Fold the ingredients

Add the marshmallows, fruit cocktail, and chopped Peeps.

    4. Mix gently

Fold everything together until evenly combined. The mixture should look fluffy and colorful.

    5. Chill

Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Overnight is even better because the marshmallows soften and the flavors blend.

    6. Decorate

Top with the remaining Peeps just before serving.

A glass bowl containing canned fruit, colorful mini marshmallows, marshmallow candies, and a large dollop of whipped topping.
A glass bowl filled with a creamy fruit salad mixture containing colorful marshmallows and whipped topping, with a metal spoon inside.

    Sophie Tips

Honestly, the first time I made this I rushed the chilling step. Big mistake. It tasted fine, but the marshmallows were still firm. After a full night in the fridge the texture becomes soft and creamy. Way better.

    A few tricks that help:

โ€ข Drain the fruit cocktail really well
โ€ข Cut Peeps into tiny pieces so they blend evenly
โ€ข Use a large bowl because folding is easier
โ€ข Chill overnight if you can

When the fluff is ready, it should look creamy and slightly thick, almost like a mousse.

    Variations

    Add pineapple

Crushed pineapple adds extra fruit flavor.

    Add pudding mix

A small packet of vanilla pudding makes the fluff thicker.

    Make it tropical

Use mandarin oranges and pineapple chunks instead of fruit cocktail.

    Add coconut

A handful of shredded coconut gives it a fun texture.

    Serving Ideas

This Easter fluff salad works for so many things.

    Serve it:

โ€ข as a dessert after Easter dinner
โ€ข as a sweet side dish at brunch
โ€ข in small cups for kids parties
โ€ข in a trifle bowl for a pretty centerpiece

It pairs really well with brunch recipes like breakfast casseroles, fruit platters, or baked ham.

    Storage Tips

Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator.

It keeps well for about 2 to 3 days.

The marshmallows will soften more over time, which actually makes the texture even creamier.

I don't recommend freezing it because the whipped topping can separate when thawed.

    FAQ

    What is Easter fluff salad?

Easter fluff is a creamy dessert salad made with whipped topping, marshmallows, fruit, and candy like Peeps. It's a popular make-ahead Easter dessert.

Can I make Easter fluff the day before?

Yes. In fact it's better that way. Chilling overnight allows the marshmallows to soften and the flavors to blend.

Can I use homemade whipped cream instead of Cool Whip?

You can, but the salad may become softer faster. Stabilized whipped cream works best if you want to substitute.
