Ingredients

For the donuts:

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup molasses
  • ¾ cup melted butter
  • ½ cup applesauce
  • teaspoons baking soda
  • ½ cup hot coffee

For the glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • teaspoons maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Christmas sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease mini donut pan.
  • Mix flour, sugar, ginger, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Whisk melted butter, molasses, and applesauce.
  • Dissolve baking soda in hot coffee, then mix with wet ingredients.
  • Combine wet and dry mixtures until smooth.
  • Pipe into donut pan and bake 10–12 minutes.
  • Let cool, then whisk glaze ingredients.
  • Dip donuts, decorate, and let glaze set.

Notes

  • Warm molasses slightly for easier mixing.
  • Add a splash of milk if the batter feels too thick.
  • For thicker glaze, dip donuts twice.
  • Freeze unglazed donuts up to 2 months and glaze after thawing.
