Equipment

  • Knife: For slicing the bread, tomato, and onion.
  • Cutting Board: To prep the vegetables and assemble the sandwich.
  • Small bowl for mixing the dressing
  • Whisk or Fork: To emulsify the dressing ingredients.

Ingredients

For the Sandwich

  • 2 sub rolls
  • 4 slices salami
  • 4 slices pepperoni
  • 4 slices ham
  • 2 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 tomato sliced
  • 1 small red onion sliced
  • 1 cup shredded romaine lettuce
  • 1 tablespoon mayonnaise

For the Sub Sandwich Dressing

  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk together mayo, olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper until well combined. Set the dressing aside to let the flavors meld while you prepare the rest of the sandwich.
  • Slice the tomato and pat it dry with a paper towel to prevent the sandwich from becoming soggy.
  • Thinly slice the red onion and shred the romaine lettuce.
  • Slice the sub rolls in half lengthwise, removing some bread inside. Spread with mayo
  • Start with salami, followed by pepperoni, and then ham.
  • Place a slice of provolone on top of the meats.
  • Add the tomato slices, red onion, and shredded lettuce.
  • Drizzle the prepared sub sandwich dressing generously over the vegetables for a tangy, zesty finish.
  • Gently close the sandwich, pressing lightly to hold everything together.
  • Slice the hoagie in half if desired, and serve immediately.

Notes

Assembled Sandwich: Best enjoyed fresh, but can be wrapped tightly in foil or plastic wrap and stored in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Add the dressing when ready to serve.
Dressing: Store leftover dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Whisk before use.
