You know those days when you open the fridge and just want something cold, juicy, and refreshing? That's exactly when I make this cantaloupe salad. Sweet melon, crisp cucumber, salty feta, fresh mint… it's simple but somehow tastes a little fancy too.

A bowl of salad with cantaloupe, sliced cucumbers, feta cheese, and mint leaves, surrounded by small bowls of salt and pepper on a white surface.

Honestly, this is one of my favorite quick summer salads because it takes about 10 minutes and pairs with almost anything. I love serving it with my Juicy Grilled Teriyaki Chicken Skewers or my Blackened Steak.

    • Cantaloupe Salad with Cucumber and Feta

    Quick Answer

    • Time: 10 minutes
    • Texture: juicy, crisp, creamy
    • Flavor: sweet melon, salty feta, bright lime
    • Best for: summer meals, BBQs, light lunches
    • Method: chop and toss salad

This cantaloupe salad is a quick summer dish made with melon, cucumber, feta, mint, and a simple lime dressing.

    The ingredients

A bowl of cubed cantaloupe, cucumbers, feta cheese, fresh mint, lime halves, green onions, olive oil, salt, and pepper on a white surface.

    Cantaloupe

The star of the salad. Sweet, juicy melon that brings natural sweetness and freshness.

    Baby cucumbers

Crisp and refreshing. They balance the sweetness of the cantaloupe.

    Feta cheese

Salty and creamy. This contrast is what makes the salad really interesting.

    Fresh mint

Bright, fresh flavor that makes the whole salad taste lighter.

    Green onion

Adds a gentle onion flavor without overpowering the melon.

    Lime juice

Fresh acidity that ties everything together.

    Olive oil

Adds smooth richness to the dressing.

    Salt and pepper

Simple seasoning that enhances all the other flavors.

How to Pick a Sweet Cantaloupe for Salad

Not all cantaloupes taste the same. Some are incredibly sweet and juicy. Others… well, they taste like water. Here are a few tricks I always use at the grocery store.

    Smell the stem end

A ripe cantaloupe smells sweet and fruity where the stem was attached.

    Look for beige skin

Under the netting, the rind should be beige or golden. If it still looks green, it usually isn't ripe yet.

    Check the weight

A good cantaloupe feels heavy for its size. That means it's full of juice.

    Press the blossom end

The opposite side of the stem should give slightly when pressed.

Honestly, starting with a good melon makes a huge difference in this cantaloupe cucumber salad.

Steps-by-step Instructions for the Cantaloupe Cucumber Salad

    1. Cut the cantaloupe

Slice the cantaloupe in half and remove the seeds. Peel away the rind and cut the melon into about 1-inch cubes.

Bigger cubes stay juicy and hold their shape better.

    2. Slice the cucumbers

Cut the baby cucumbers into thin rounds.

If you're using larger cucumbers, slice them in half first.

    3. Combine the fresh ingredients

Add the cantaloupe cubes, cucumber slices, chopped mint, and green onion to a large bowl.

The colors already look amazing at this point.

    4. Add the feta

Sprinkle the crumbled feta over the salad.

Try not to mix yet. Feta breaks easily.

    5. Add the dressing

Drizzle lime juice and olive oil over everything.

    Season with salt and pepper.

    6. Toss gently

Use a large spoon to gently toss the salad until everything is coated.

Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

And that's it. A fresh cantaloupe melon salad ready in minutes.

A bowl with cubed cantaloupe, chopped cucumber, feta cheese, green onion, and mint, next to olive oil, halved lime, peppercorns, and a bowl of salt on a white surface.
A bowl of salad with cantaloupe chunks, cucumber slices, crumbled feta cheese, and mint leaves on a white surface with lime, a towel, salt, and pepper nearby.

    Sophie Tips

    Cut the melon slightly larger
Small pieces release too much juice and make the salad watery.

    Add feta last
If you mix too early it turns into a creamy dressing instead of nice crumbles.

    Serve it cold
This salad is best when chilled for about 20 minutes.

    Taste before serving
Sometimes cantaloupes are sweeter than others. You might want a little more lime.

    Variations

    Cantaloupe cucumber salad

The classic version like this recipe. Simple and refreshing.

    Cantaloupe mozzarella salad

Swap feta for fresh mozzarella balls.

    Cantaloupe prosciutto salad

Add torn prosciutto for a sweet and salty Italian-style salad.

    Watermelon cantaloupe salad

Mix two melons together for a colorful fruit salad.

    Nutty cantaloupe salad

Add pistachios or walnuts for crunch.

    Serving Ideas

This cantaloupe salad works with so many meals.

    I love serving it with:

    • grilled chicken thighs
    • air fryer portobello mushrooms
    • tofu stir fry
    • BBQ ribs
    • summer burgers

It's also perfect for BBQs, picnics, and potlucks.

Sometimes I even eat a bowl of this for lunch. Light, refreshing, done.

    Storage Tips

This salad is best the same day.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

If making ahead, keep the dressing separate until serving.

If the salad releases extra juice overnight, simply drain it before serving.

    FAQ

Can I make cantaloupe salad ahead of time?

Yes! Just prep all the ingredients and keep them in an airtight container in the fridge. Wait to add the dressing and feta until right before serving so nothing gets soggy.

What cheese works best in cantaloupe salad?

Feta is the best choice because the saltiness really balances the sweet melon. If you don't have feta, ricotta salata or fresh mozzarella both work well.

Can you add other fruits to cantaloupe salad?

Absolutely. Watermelon, strawberries, or blueberries are all great additions. You can even mix two melons together for a colorful twist.
